This study aims to understand the transformation process of thrift stores (brechós) and to analyze the phenomenon known as the gourmetization of these spaces, which have evolved from being perceived merely as places for reselling used clothes to achieving a new status within the fashion market. The research begins with a historical contextualization, tracing the origins of thrift stores in Brazil and worldwide, up to their consolidation as contemporary businesses focused on curation, brand identity, and consumer experience. Through a theoretical-analytical approach and field observation, it was possible to identify how thrift stores have become environments that combine sustainability, style, and exclusivity, accompanying the rise of a new consumer profile — more conscious, informed, and aware of the environmental and social impacts of consumption. The study also explores the distinction between thrift stores and bazaars, emphasizing how curation, garment care, and personalized service have contributed to the repositioning of these spaces, now associated with accessible luxury and the creative economy. The analysis reveals that the gourmetization of thrift stores, although sometimes associated with elitization, also represents a significant shift in the perception of secondhand consumption, granting it symbolic and aesthetic value. It is concluded that the new generation of consumers sees circular fashion not only as a purchasing alternative but as a form of political, social, and environmental expression. Thus, contemporary thrift stores reaffirm their cultural relevance by uniting consciousness, style, and purpose.
