Given the abusive use of screens by children, as something common in everyday life, through quantitative research with the help of the Google Forms tool, we applied a questionnaire directed to parents and/or guardians consisting of 20 questions (19 closed and 1 open) about the damage caused by excessive use of screens in child development. We noted that the average screen time for the participating children was 3 hours per day, with emphasis on the consumption of videos and cartoons. This average exceeds the recommendations of the Brazilian Society of Pediatrics, which suggests a maximum of 1 (one) hour per day for children aged 2 to 5. We conclude that it is essential that parents and educators pay attention to screen time and content and promote a more balanced use, without interfering with other important activities, such as reading, playing and social interaction.
