Chemistry plays a fundamental role in our lives and is frequently encountered in our daily routines, spanning across various domains (ZUCCO, 2012). This study focuses on addressing the challenges associated with the use of organic ant baits in the control of "lava-foot" ants (Solenopsis saevissima), aiming to reduce the harm caused by these pests, in contrast to the environmental impacts associated with synthetic ant baits. In this context, the objective of this work is to evaluate the efficacy of an ant bait composed of natural ingredients, specifically clove essential oil (Syzygium aromaticum) and acetic acid found in vinegar, for the control of fire ants. To carry out the tests and set up the equipment, the chemistry laboratory at the State Technical School of Fernandópolis was made available, while the ants were collected from the Beira Rio field in the city of Fernandópolis. The results obtained demonstrate that the combination of essential oil and vinegar exhibited higher efficacy than the individual solutions. Consequently, the ant bait composed of essential oil and vinegar proved to be highly effective, indicating that the production of an ant bait based on these components is a viable and promising alternative.
